Ohanian charts a course for you to build a business, or create a following, or just expand your world and those of people you haven't even met. What you'll lean from Ohanian isn't taught in any school or in any modern curricula. It is the knowledge of the future-to create a better world." - Soledad O'Brien, Journalist, CEO, Starfish Media Group "Alexis talking about the internet is like Sid Vicious talking about punk. Analysts merely adopted it, but Ohanian was born in it, molded by it, and is the voice of it. A fascinating story, but more importantly: a crucial insight into the healthy proactive mindset of the tech startup world that will keep defining the future." - Derek Sivers, founder of CD Baby, author of Anything You Want About the Author: In addition to starting Reddit.com, Alexis Ohanian has also been instrumental in other successful online ventures, including HipMunk and BreadPig. He lives in Brooklyn but remains a diehard fan of the Washington Redskins.

Repatriation & Restorative Justice: From Native American Remains & Sacred Objects to Nazi Art Theft

02:01:06
October 25, 2018 This panel addresses the process of repatriation at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), repatriation from the tribal perspective and the repatriation of artwork, which was stolen from Jewish families during the Holocaust-era. Jennifer Kreder will discuss how museums have undermined the mission of the WWII Army Monuments Men (and Women), which entailed the recovery and return of art plundered during the Nazi era whenever and wherever it could be found. Jackie Swift will speak about the process of restoring Native American cultural items and human remains including funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony from museum collection to lineal descendants and culturally affiliated tribes, clans, villages, and/or organizations. Cruise Ship April Fools Stories Plus Norwegian Sun Upgrades and $20.00 Per Day Tipping Fees!

01:15:55
Cruise Ship April Fools Stories Plus Norwegian Sun Upgrades and $20.00 Per Day Tipping Fees! Well if you missed my April Fools video from yesterday, don't worry there were more! I saw a story about P and O Cruise Lines from Australia about walking a tight rope between 2 moving cruise ships south of Australia! Plus the story about the new silent deck feature coming to a cruise line where talking and listening to music was forbidden. The cruise line was offering a limited number of passes you could purchase onboard the ship called Hush Money passes, but they would be few and far between. Now in real news the Norwegian Sun cruise ship is going into dry dock for about 20 days or so to be refurbished and the ship will sail on 3 and 4 day cruises out of Cape Canaveral to the Bahamas and to Cuba. The ship will be sold as an all inclusive ship to passengers but the only extra feature you get is a limited drink card. The specialty dining is still extra. Rates for the ship will start at about $200 per person per day. If your a non drinker, you may want to avoid these 3 day booze cruises. PSA: Needs of People with Disabilities (PWD) Un women

00:31
This PSA was produced as part of the UN Women project "Innovative Action for Gender Equality” IAGE (funded by EU). The PSA is based on the key needs and priorities identified in the baseline study of IDP and Conflict-affected women, with a focus on PWDs, single and elderly women. This PSA addresses the needs of People with Disabilities (PWDs) among IDPs and conflict affected women and its key message is that the barriers existing in the society should not prevent PWDs from development and self-realisation. The PSA is part of the project’s advocacy efforts to address the needs and priorities of the target groups of women. The PSA was aired through regional TV stations in Marneuli (Kvemo Kartli region), Gurjaani (Kakheti region), Ninotsminda (Samtskhe-Javakheti region), and Zugdidi (Samegrelo region), as well as Public Broadcaster and Tabula TV.

Congressman Frank Wolf: Nigeria & International Religious Freedom

01:06:48
FOLLOW US: www.westminster-institute.org/ Twitter: twitter.com/Westminster_Ins Facebook: facebook.com/WestminsterInstitute FOLLOW 21 Wilberforce: http://www.21wilberforce.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/21Wilberforce Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/21wilberforce Congressman Frank Wolf was widely acknowledged as the "conscience" of the Congress during his long service in the House of Representatives. First elected in 1980, he left Congress at the end of his 17th term in 2015 to focus exclusively on human rights and religious freedom. Long before the "Arab Spring" turned into an "Arab Winter," Congressman Wolf sounded the alarm about the worsening plight of religious minorities, notably the ancient Christian communities in both Iraq and Egypt. He has recently returned from a trip to Nigeria. Nigeria is on the verge of fracturing along religious fault lines. Ethnic and religious minorities in northern Nigeria face systemic and systematic discrimination. Muslims and Christians in northeastern Nigeria are profoundly and negatively impacted by the terrorist violence pursued by Boko Haram. Christians risk extinction in Nigeria's northeast. Congressman Wolf continues to be an advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. In January 2015, he was appointed the first-ever Wilson Chair in Religious Freedom at Baylor University. That same month he joined the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, a newly created religious freedom group, as Distinguished Senior Fellow. He is the author of the International Religious Freedom Act, which infused America's first freedom - religious freedom - into U.S. foreign policy by creating the International Religious Freedom Office at the State Department.

Envisioning a Sustainable Future

55:23
Google Tech Talk June 11, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Madeleine Lansky. How do we deal with environmental degradation, climate change and global warming? Any system that is not sustainable will ultimately fail. This truth feels unbearable, and we often block it from our consciousness. We are overwhelmed with fear, anxiety, sadness and anger. We are paralyzed about how to go about improving our environment. Many of our mental health symptoms are linked to our core fears about survival and destruction. We might experience them as emptiness, feeling separate from life, or that life is not worth living. It can feel challenging enough just to survive, let alone to do something about the environment. We have lost our direct connection with our natural surroundings. In nature, the earth's finite resources are continuously recycled into different forms: molecules, minerals, water, air, soil, plants, and animals. "Sustainability" is inherent to the natural world. From the individual level to global, our main job right now is to rework all of our systems so that they recycle, rather than waste, finite resources. By embracing sustainability both personally and environmentally, we can feel emotionally stronger, happier and healthier. Sustainability allows us to reconnect with our natural surroundings while holding on to humanity's many achievements in the past 150 years. Our task is to use the genius of the industrial revolution to create the next step in our evolution: The Sustainability Revolution. This talk will focus on how to distinguish between linear (unsustainable) and cyclic (sustainable) systems. Participants will learn about different levels of sustainability and how to create the most impact with sustainable change. A sustainable rebuilding of Haiti will be used as a case example for this talk. Madeleine Lansky, M.D. is a Board Certified Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist. Someone always pays the price

00:38
Supermarkets have a stranglehold and are squeezing the life out of banana workers and farmers. Join us to Make Fruit Fair – NOW! https://www.makefruitfair.org/ A handful of supermarket chains dominate the European retail market. They are the gatekeepers between European consumers and suppliers from around the world. They abuse their buyer power and dictate prices by squeezing suppliers to keep costs extremely low. Farmers have no guarantees about their payment. Workers are often forced to work long hours, for low pay in degrading conditions, exposed to harmful agrochemicals. These conditions can be changed! Show your support and help to empower workers and farmers. Sign our petition for fair tropical fruits: https://www.makefruitfair.org/
