Building a Core ETF Portfolio

36:40
We love Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and think everybody else should as well. So in this video we look at building a diverse portfolio across different asset classes, geographies and sectors using only locally SA listed ETFs suggesting a number of ETFs to include. The portfolio could be part of a core / satellite portfolio or even just a stand-alone ETF portfolio. We’ll also look at different options for buying ETFs and the costs involved as well as why BBET40 is preferred over STX40.

What is CORE & SATELLITE? What does CORE & SATELLITE mean? CORE & SATELLITE meaning & explanation

What is CORE & SATELLITE? What does CORE & SATELLITE mean? CORE & SATELLITE meaning - CORE & SATELLITE definition - CORE & SATELLITE explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Core & Satellite Portfolio Management is an investment strategy that incorporates traditional fixed-income and equity-based securities (i.e. index funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), passive mutual funds, etc.) known as the "core" portion of the portfolio, with a percentage of selected individual securities in the fixed-income and equity-based side of the portfolio known as the "satellite" portion. The "Core" is made of passively managed securities (e.g. index funds, ETFs, passive mutual funds, individual securities) and uses a traditional benchmark (e.g. Russell 3000 or the S&P 1500) to benchmark/compare for performance. The positions may have a particular style bias (e.g. more small cap stocks over mid/large cap companies, more value positions over growth positions, higher or lower concentration in developed international markets) and is sometimes consistent with the MONECO Seven Asset Allocation Management Theme. The market downturn of 2008 has many experts in the investments industry questioning the validity of asset allocation as a means for diversifying and managing overall risks associated with investing in stocks. As a consequence, other alternatives are now gaining force. Owning a core equity portfolio centered on a theme of dividend growth continues to gain momentum as individuals are faced with a growing likelihood of outliving their investable assets. With a core centered on dividend growth, individuals create a growing income stream irrespective of the account value associated with growth in the underlying assets. The "Satellite" portion, by contrast, comprises holdings that the advisor expects will add alpha, the financial term for returns exceeding systemic. Holdings may include actively managed stocks, mutual funds, and separate account managers with a particular sector, region of positions, or Micro or Mega Cap Company Holdings, or passively managed assets with a particular style that is counter to, or even enhances, the style bias of the core. Short holding periods and tax-inefficient positions may result in short-term capital gains or losses. If the entire allotment of the satellite portion is not deemed worthy of inclusion, that portion will either be reallocated across "core" positions or in a "satellite holder"—a position that mirrors some aspect of the core (generally the position most closely resembling the benchmark) that is quickly traded when an opportunity is identified without causing major tax implications (e.g., issues with FIFO based trades). This satellite allocation may be implemented into 100% equity allocations and/or allocations that blend with fixed-income or non-equity positions. The satellite portfolio may be used occasionally for fixed-income investing (emerging market debt, junk bonds, individual bonds) but generally it is dedicated to: equities and alternative assets such as: hedge funds, REITs, commodities, options, and foreign currencies. Principal protected notes may also be used; these investments are truly hybrid in that they provide a guaranteed return of principal while providing upside participation in a number of equity and alternative-investments asset classes. Portfolios are more than a collection of financial assets and the satellite investments must be selected and managed considering the portfolio as a whole. The satellite should improve not only the return but the risk/return profile of the portfolio, and not only quantitatively (the Sharpe ratio or whatever other risk/return measures used) but also qualitatively, by adding sources of value (e.g. non-correlated strategies, short and medium-term investment ideas, risk-asymmetric assets, etc.) different from that in the core but still consistent with the market and economic view and the client's financial planning goals. ...

How we manage a Core investment portfolio

02:01
We believe that for the bulk of your investment portfolio, your thought behind those investments is "I need my money to be working for me and prudently growing over time." Our attempt to manage a Core portfolio is by focusing on maximizing our diversity, placing our eggs in as many baskets as possible, and attempting to reduce our risk while not meaningfully reducing our expected returns. We find that many investors are much less diversified than they think, and are taking much more risk that they think. It is time to invest smarter. Independent. Fee only. Fiduciary. We can be your financial advisor, your personal CFO. Better financial advice.

Investing Strategy - Core and Satellite Strategy - Investing Strategy Saturday #2 Video

03:29
Hi guys welcome to another episode of investing strategy Saturday. Today I will be discussing the Core and Satellite investing strategy. This Video although being really short took me ages to make as I am just learning how to edit videos. If you liked it be sure to like the video and tell me what I did well in the comments. Also, any improvements I can make to my video are appreciated. See you guys in the next video. Good books to read Intelligent Investor: https://goo.gl/hLM9HB Investing Demystified: https://goo.gl/6swZ8j Investing Through the Looking Glass: https://goo.gl/mHV99R Buy Low Rent High: https://goo.gl/Cbf5yo Music: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/cinematic Script: Hey guys Ken from investing made easy here. Today we are going to be continuing the series, investing strategy Saturday, with the core and satellite Strategy. Before we start make sure to like, comment, and subscribe for future videos. Today we will be looking at a Buy and Hold strategy which is a long-term strategy where you buy the shares and hold them for a long time. There are many variations of this simple strategy and today we will be looking at the core and satellite variant. So how is the core and satellite strategy defined? Core and Satellite is a common and time-tested investment portfolio design that consists of a "core," such as a large-cap stock index mutual fund, which represents the largest portion of the portfolio, and other types of funds—the "satellite" funds—each consisting of smaller portions of the portfolio to create the whole. What are the advantages of this investing strategy. The portfolios design is to reduce risk through diversification. Therefore, to take advantage of this you should purchase your satellite investments in different domains. So, if you bought your core share in technology you could invest your satellites into banking, consumer goods or any other sector. Another advantage is this is a fairly low maintenance strategy as you are aiming to make money in the long term. This means we can take advantage of dividends to either reinvest or to create passive income. Let’s begin on how to invest into the core. The best core holdings are a diverse large-cap stock fund. Some examples include low cost S&P 500 index funds. The core will be the largest part of your portfolio and therefore a good percentage for a moderate portfolio is 30-40% but a higher risk but potentially higher reward is about 20-30% into the core stock. The reason large cap index funds work is because information about these large companies like Microsoft are easy to find for everyone, so it is difficult for investors to consistently outperform the market over longer periods of time. This means your long-term investment into just one company has a much lower risk with a large cap index fund. Now for purchasing the satellites. These other funds can include mid-cap stock, small-cap stock, foreign stock, fixed income (bond), sector funds and money market funds. In other words, the satellites are higher risk higher reward smaller investments that should make you more money that the initial core if done correctly. At a minimum, and perhaps most importantly, the Core and Satellite portfolio construction design can help insure investors are well-diversified among different asset types (stocks, bonds, and cash) and different mutual fund categories. This asset allocation and investment makeup can also help the investor achieve reasonable returns for reasonable risk. If you like this new style of more heavily edited but shorter be sure to drop a like and tell me about it in the comments. If you want to see more videos about this including my investing series which you can follow along be sure to subscribe and hit that bell icon. This is Ken from investing made easy and I’ll see you.

Use ETFs to Develop Your Investment Core

04:25
While there have been a lot of new innovative investment styles hitting the exchange traded fund market, investors should not overlook core strategies to build out the foundations of their investment portfolio. For example, Charles Schwab has dabbled with fundamental or alternative index-based ETFs to tap into the rising smart beta trend, the ETF provider is more known for its cheap broad market cap-weighted index ETFs. "We do a lot of thinking per products," Jonathan de St Paer, Head of Strategy and Product Development at Charles Schwab Investment Management, said at the Charles Schwab Impact Conference. "We focus on having a limited number of products that are going to serve most of our clients' needs, so [we] do a lot of research and a lot of vetting before we do anything new."

A RockWealth guide to All-Weather Investing: Part 1

01:04
Most investors like to alter their investment portfolios in line with economic and market forecasts. But the evidence shows us that it's a bad idea. What investors need instead is a portfolio that can withstand all market conditions. This is the first video in a series showing you how it's done. +++ Most investing is based on forecasting. Investors pay experts to predict which way the economy and the financial markets are heading. Those experts then pick the asset classes and individual securities they think will perform best. The problem is, it’s even harder than predicting the weather. Once you factor in the cost of using them, only a tiny fraction of financial professionals are able to beat the market over the long term. The late Jack Bogle showed us a better way to invest. He said investors shouldn’t predictions at all. In The Little Book of Common Sense Investing, he wrote: “Simply buy the entire stock market. Then get out of the casino and stay out.” For that, investors need a portfolio to withstand all market conditions. In this video series, we’re going to show you how to stay on course, whatever the weather.

In anderen Märkten, Regionen, Assetklassen dagegen schon. Also breit streuen? Core Stock Portfolio Re-Balance For Profits in the Stock Market

06:28
Core Stock Portfolio Re-Balance For Profits in the Stock Market. i am looking at re-balancing my stock market portfolio going into the last few months of the year. After the selling in October, the S&P 500 is still above the lows in February. Now that could change with some heavy selling, but right now, there does not appear to be enough volume to the downside to drive the prices below the lows of February. Our goal here is to build financial wealth for retirement. Some of us have different goals and different asset allocation ideas. I am looking to add to my core portfolio made up of ETF funds and actively managed mutual funds. I will use as additional holdings, money market funds, dividend stocks, stocks and aggressive ETF Funds.

🔴SPY S&P 500 Bear Funds Long Term Investing Core Portfolio

16:49
SPY S&P 500 Bear Funds Long Term Investing Core Portfolio 9/14/13. The stock market and more importantly the ETF Equity Funds that we participate in have been split in the direction they have been moving the past 6 weeks. The SPY which represents the S&P 500 moved down 4.6% over that period and this week has bounced back up on a counter trend rally of 1.98%. The QQQ that is made up of 60% technology has continued its bullish trend and never broke below the important 10 period moving average. The QQQ budged up 1.47% this week. I have evaluated all the the long term and short term technical indicators and currently we are holding a Neutral directional position. We have seen some short term indicators move up and the long term indicators are moving sideways to down. The Put / Call ratio has reached some extremes and this typically leads to selling in the market or at the least moving back to support areas. The SPY daily chart is starting to form a downtrend channel. I would not be surprised if we challenge the upper limits of this downtrend this week. The momentum indicators RSI and MACD are showing less strength as the SPY has moved up. The SPY has moved up into resistance areas. Also, look at this chart. The Put / Call ratio is at extremes and usually leads to selling. Based on past history, there is usually some selling that follows these extremes, so that is one reason that I have been slow to sell the bear funds. In addition, there are signs in the daily chart, the market may be turning back down. I would rather sell the Bear funds when they are at highs and take profits rather than when they are at lows. In the event the daily charts start to turn back down, then that will create a new buying opportunity for our Bear funds on this page. The SPY is bouncing up on a counter trend rally. The SPY broke down out of the upward trend line five weeks ago. It is moving back up to test the lower level of the upward trend line. On the daily chart, the SPY is starting to develop a new downtrend channel. The quicker moving momentum indicator Stochastic is turning up as expected with the this bounce in the weekly chart. The longer term MACD indicator is still below the signal line. It has flattened out some but is still in a bearish mode. The 12 period average has crossed back over the 26 period average. That is bullish on the short term and gives us a buy signal. We are cautious however at this time due to divergences in the momentum indicators. As the market has moved up, the indicators are showing a reduced amount of strength to the upside.

Emerging Markets, Emerging Core?

04:06
Once seen as a fringe asset class, emerging markets today are powering economic growth and providing a critical source of returns for investor portfolios. In this one-hour webinar, IndexUniverse.com Editor and global ETF expert Matt Hougan examines the case for increasing a portfolio's baseline exposure to emerging markets, and argues that most investors systematically underweight emerging markets.
