Bee Gees - New York Mining Disaster 1941 (HD 16:9)
"New York Mining Disaster 1941" is a 1967 song by the Bee Gees, written by Barry and Robin Gibb. Barring a moderately successful reissue of their Australian single "Spicks and Specks", it was the first single release of the group's international career and their first song to hit the charts in the US or UK. The song was the first track of side two on the group's international debut album Bee Gees' 1st. The first single with Australian drummer Colin Petersen as an official member of the band.

Disaster Chronicles: Farmington Mine Disaster - A&E (1990)
An episode of the early-1990's A&E Channel series "Disaster Chronicles," hosted by Joe Witte, focusing on the Farmington, WV Mine explosion and fire in November, 1968. Apologies for the sound. It'd be great if there were more episodes of this great show online since I unfortunately lost a tape of the 1974 Xenia Tornado, the 1960 Air Crash in NYC, the 1980 MGM Grand Fire, and Mudflow in Italy episodes some years back.

The Price of Coal 1 1977
The Price of Coal is two linked television plays from 1977, scripted by Barry Hines and directed by Ken Loach. They are set in a Yorkshire coal mine. The miners and the manager are played by Yorkshire club comedians (including Duggie Brown). The two plays have the same actors, but are different in tone. The first is comic, and deals with the preparations for an official visit by Prince Charles. The humour revolves around the expensive and ludicrous preparations that are required when there is an official visit from a member of the Royal Family. The workers recognise this and cannot take it seriously. Management recognises it but has to play the game. Special toilets must be constructed "just in case" and then destroyed after the visit. A worker is instructed to paint a brick holding up a window. On the eve of the visit the slogan "Scargill rules OK" is painted on a wall. The manager comments "When I find out who did that I'll string him up by his knackers". It is a surreal situation for many of the miners who obviously bear no love for Royalty. The second deals with a pit accident where some men are killed, and attempts to rescue some trapped men. It is loosely based on the Lofthouse Colliery disaster in 1973.

Graeme Lawrence Story: Disaster at 1972 NZ Grand Prix
A special feature by Alan McLaren on New Zealand racing driver Graeme Lawrence. The film begins with Lawrence driving an 1800cc Brabham, which is suffering from a persistent misfire and later sold. Footage then switches to the team workshop as Lawrence, his family and mechanics prepare their new 5000cc Lola T300, with which he wins on his debut outing at Baypark Raceway, Tauranga... only for technical issues in race two. Then it's on to January 1972 and the fateful International Grand Prix at Pukekohe, where Lawrence carves his way through the field after an early mishap, before struggling to pass John McCormack (Elfin) for seventh place. The film then shows the pit crew starting to look anxiously at their watches as Lawrence goes missing. Then comes a message of the PA system at the circuit: "...And we also want all available police to go to the scene of the accident." It appears that as McCormack lapped Bryan Faloon on the back straight (driving a much smaller 2-litre car), Faloon had been unaware that Lawrence was also tucked into McCormack's slipstream and the pair collided at high speed. Lawrence's Lola was sent over the fence and made contact with a waiting train, parked on railway lines next to the circuit. Faloon was killed instantly. Lawrence survived, albeit with serious injuries ("a broken arm, broken leg and suspected head injuries"). The race was won by Frank Gardner, with motorcycle grand prix legend Mike Hailwood in second. A Wikipedia entry for the 1972 race, containing a full list of the competitors and cars present, can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1972_New_Zealand_Grand_Prix In this film: Graeme Lawrence (1800cc Brabham, 5000cc Lola T300) Lawrence Team (Dad, American mechanics etc) Mike Hailwood, (Surtees) Circuit PA, Radio and Newspaper reports of the accident McLarenArchive: Over 60 rare motorsport films and rising! Cleveland's Balloonfest Becomes Total Nightmare
While started with good intentions, Balloonfest '86 quickly became an absolute disaster. Hosted by United Way of Cleveland in Ohio, the premise of Balloonfest was simple, set the world record by releasing one and a half million balloons. Sounds fun, but it resulted in chaos, damage, and even two deaths.

Songtext / Lyrics Please lay down your pistols and your rifles Please lay down your colours and your creeds Please lay down your thoughts of being no-one Concentrate on what you ought to be Then lay down your bullshit and your protests Then lay down your governments of greed Take a look at what lies all around you Then pray God we can live in peace Everyone's a loner 'till he needs a helping hand Everyone is everybody else Everyone's a no-one 'till he wants to make a stand God alone knows how we will survive So please lay down your pistols and your rifles Please lay down your colours and your creeds Please lay down your thoughts of being no-one Concentrate on what you ought to be Everyone's a loner 'till he needs a helping hand Everyone is everybody else Everyone's a no-one 'till he wants to make a stand God alone knows how we will survive Recorded on "The Drury Lane Concert" in London at 1974. Thanks to BJH for this fine song. Thanks to John Lee and his excellent job on guitar. The studion version of this song was introduced first on "Everyone Is Everybody Else". In my opinion, this is the very best version of all.

Britannia Mining Museum, BC Canada
Explore the old underground copper mine at Britannia Beach, near Vancouver BC Canada. Take a guided tour through the old tunnels, blasted out of solid rock and experience the working life of a hard rock miner. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia... Britannia Beach is a small unincorporated community in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District located approximately 55 kilometers north of Vancouver, British Columbia on the Sea-to-Sky Highway on Howe Sound. It has a population of about 300. The community first developed between 1900 and 1904 as the residential area for the staff of the Britannia Mining and Smelting Company. The residential areas and the mining operation were physically interrelated, resulting in coincidental mining and community disasters through its history. Today, the town is host to the Britannia Mine Museum, formerly known as the British Columbia Museum of Mining, on the grounds of the old Britannia Mines. The mine's old concentrator facilities, used to separate copper ore from its containing rock, are a National Historic Site of Canada Copper mine (1900-1974) A copper discovery on Britannia Mountain by Dr. A. A. Forbes in 1888 led to the development of the Britannia Mine. In 1899, a mining engineer named George Robinson was able to convince financial backers that the property had great potential. For several years, companies were formed, merged and dissolved in efforts to raise capital. The Britannia Mining and Smelting Company, a branch of the Howe Sound Company, finally commenced mining in the early 1900s, and owned the site for the next sixty years. The first ore was shipped to the Crofton Smelter on Vancouver Island in 1904, and the mine achieved full production in 1905. A town had grown up around the mine and a Post Office opened on January 1, 1907 where it was named after the nearby mine. In 1912 John Wedderburn Dunbar Moodie was authorized to upgrade the operation and increase production from the mine. Improvements in the mineral separation processes stimulated plans for a new mill (No. 2), which was completed in 1916 and was capable of producing 2000 tons of ore per day. The onset of World War I increased the demand for copper and the price rose sharply. On March 21, 1915 an avalanche destroyed the Jane Camp. Sixty men, women and children were killed and it was a terrible blow to the tiny community. Construction began immediately on a new, safer town at the 2,200-foot (670 m) level above the Britannia Beach site. This portion of the community became known as the "Town site" or "Mount Sheer". In March 1921 during a brief period when the mine was shut down, mill No. 2 burnt to the ground. On October 28, 1921 after a full day of torrential rain, a massive flood destroyed much of that portion of the community and mine operations that existed on the lower beach area. 50 of 110 homes were destroyed and thirty-seven men, women and children lost their lives. The flood was caused because the mining company had dammed up a portion of the Creek during the construction of a railway, and when this dam gave way the town below was flooded. Carleton Perkins Browning directed the reconstruction of this portion of the community and the new No. 3 mill, which stands today. Being an isolated, close knit community which could only be accessed by boat, life in both of Britannia's towns was never dull. Facilities included libraries, club rooms, billiard rooms, swimming pools, tennis courts and even bowling. A thriving social calendar saw sporting events, theatrical productions, dances, movies and parties held throughout the year. The mine boomed in the late 1920s and early 1930s, becoming the largest producer of copper in the British Commonwealth by 1929, under the management of the mine manager C.P. Browning. In the 1940s there were talks to build an artist village in Britannia's hills, but that plan did not proceed. During the Great Depression, miners unionized in 1946 and suffered through their first strike. Low copper prices saw the Britannia Mine Company reduced to seven employees, and in 1959 it went into liquidation. In 1963 the Anaconda Mining Company bought the property and production continued for the next eleven years. 300 employees managed to produce 60,000 tons of concentrate each year. Ferries services stopped around May 1965 after the highway and railway connections had been constructed. The connections made it easier to transport the copper, but high operating costs and taxes eventually forced the mine to close on November 1, 1974. The company did not attempt to clean up the mine and chemical wastes that it produced, since environmental protection laws had not yet been enacted and enforcement of the Fisheries Act was never applied On April 1, 1975 the BC Museum of Mining was opened to the public, and was designated as a National Historic Site in 1988. The following year, 1989, the Museum site was designated a British Columbia Historic Landmark.
Tour of Coal Creek Station
Coal Creek Station, North Dakotas largest power plant, features two units with a total generation capacity of over 1,100 megawatts. Ground was broken for Coal Creek Station in the fall of 1974. The plant started generating electricity from Unit 1 in 1979 and from Unit 2 in 1980. From the beginning, Coal Creek Station has been a top performer in several national rankings of power plants as it is one of the most reliable and cost-efficient in the country. The fuel source for the plant is lignite coal, supplied by the adjoining Falkirk Mine.

Bee Gees ~ Nights On Broadway 1975 Disco Purrfection Version
The brothers Gibb, Barry (9/1/1947) and twins Maurice and Robin (12/22/1949) were born on the Isle Of Man to Hugh and Barbara Gibb. The family moved to Manchester, England shortly after and remained there and the brothers formed a music group called the Rattlesnakes just before the family relocated to Australia. Using their vocal talents to perform at various venues, they were hired to work at the Redcliffe Speedway racetrack singing on the back of a truck that slowly drive around the track while patrons threw loose change at them. Australian DJ Bill Gates championed the bros and renamed them the BG's, using the initials of the oldest brother, Barry Gibb. They had their first TV appearance in 1960 and got a record deal in 1963 with Festival Records. By 1965, label interest in the group faded and the brothers decided to return to England. Daddy Gibb sent demo tapes to Beatles manager Brian Epstein who got Robert Stigwood interested in handling their affairs. He devised a promotional program that included releasing "New York Mining Disaster 1941" on a 45 that had no artist listed, and DJ's believing that it was the latest single from the Beatles, pushing the song into the top 20 UK and #14 US. They began a run of Top 40 US hits that culminated with the chart topping "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" that spent four weeks at #1 in 1971. By that time, the Bee Gees were fighting each other and one brother would exit the group and then return to the fold. Their career stalled until Arif Marden and Stigwood lit a fire under them telling them to listen to what US radio was playing. A move to Miami cemented the new direction they were taking and the "Mr Natural" album opened them up to a new sound. The bros were excited about this, and set about working on their next LP, "Main Course" that ignited their spectacular career in the 70's. The first single issued was the #1 pop hit "Jive Talkin'" and it was followed up by "Nights On Broadway" a #7 pop hit. The new combination of falsetto vocals and funky soul tunes hit big and even gave them a firm hold on the R&B charts. The slow paced middle eight was omitted on the single, but some radio stations still played the full version. Did you know that Stigwood originally wanted "Stayin' Alive" to have the same arrangement? Barry in his wisdom nixed the idea of breaking the song to include a tender interlude, because he felt it would kill the energy. I can only surmise that he did not want to repeat himself, but his reasoning about not breaking the beat was bang on.

Eddie Coffey - Grey Foggy Day
Video By James R. Yetman: http://newfoundlandtreasures.com Eddie Coffey was born and raised in the Placentia Bay Community of Cuslett, NL. As a teenager, he heard some of the finest traditional music of the Cape Shore area and recalls people coming to their house on weekends to hear his mother play accordion. Eddie soon became part of the Cape Shore music. At 18, he went to Labrador to work in the Wabush mines for two years, playing at parties as much as he could. Eddie fished on draggers out of Halifax for around six years, playing for other draggers over the radio. In 1974 he moved to Ottawa and played with The Beggarmen for a year before moving on to Toronto. A recording executive saw him at the Horseshoe Club and that led to his first single, Sweet Forget Me Not. It outsold all other local records for that year. Four months later he recorded his first album which sold thousands and thousands, but with no share of the profits for him. For Eddie it was a bittersweet experience. Nevertheless, Coffey plays and tours across Canada several times a year in his touring motor home. His music is heard all over the world including Australia and Sweden where his song Peggy's Cove Disaster reached No. 8 on the charts. His natural and unaffected style, characteristic of his native Newfoundland grass roots, tells a stirring tale of the plane crash that occurred in 1998 in Peggy's Cove. The song is also contained on the 1999 Roto Noto release of Essentials - The 10th Anniversary World Song Compilation CD. The Eddie Coffey Band has been on tour since 2007 raising funds for the Wounded Warriors Fund, which delivers financial and moral assistance to members of the Canadian Forces wounded on military operations abroad. Eddie Coffey has been nominated for the Order of Canada, as well as for the Artistic Trailblazer Award for overall talent and outstanding contribution to the music industry. Barclay James Harvest - Mockingbird - Live at Drury Lane - 1974
The poor video quality is due to the fact that it was downloaded by me, right here on Youtube for some time. So I took the liberty of posting, even if the video and audio are not in good condition. If someone feels injured, I ask you to let me know, so I can withdraw the video of the channel. The 33 - Official Trailer [HD]
The 33 - in theaters November 13th. http://the33movie.com https://www.facebook.com/the33movie --- From Alcon Entertainment and Phoenix Pictures comes the unforgettable true story of “The 33.” In 2010, the eyes of the world turned to Chile, where 33 miners had been buried alive by the catastrophic explosion and collapse of a 100-year-old gold and copper mine. Over the next 69 days, an international team worked night and day in a desperate attempt to rescue the trapped men as their families and friends, as well as millions of people globally, waited and watched anxiously for any sign of hope. But 200 stories beneath the surface, in the suffocating heat and with tensions rising, provisions—and time—were quickly running out. A story of resilience, personal transformation and triumph of the human spirit, the film takes us to the Earth’s darkest depths, revealing the psyches of the men trapped in the mine, and depicting the courage of both the miners and their families who refused to give up. Based on the gripping true story of survival—and filmed with the cooperation of the miners, their families and their rescuers—“The 33” reveals the never-before-seen actual events that unfolded, above and below ground, which became nothing less than a worldwide phenomenon. The international cast is led by Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”), James Brolin, and Lou Diamond Phillips, with Bob Gunton and Gabriel Byrne. The main cast also includes Mario Casas, Jacob Vargas, Juan Pablo Raba, Oscar Nuñez, Tenoch Huerta, Marco Treviño, Adriana Barraza, Kate Del Castillo, Cote de Pablo, Elizabeth De Razzo, Naomi Scott, Gustavo Angarita, and Alejandro Goic. Patricia Riggen directed “The 33” from a screenplay by Mikko Alanne, Oscar nominee Craig Borten (“Dallas Buyers Club”) and Michael Thomas, based on the screen story by Jose Rivera and the book Deep Down Dark by Hector Tobar. The film was produced by Oscar nominee Mike Medavoy (“Black Swan”), Robert Katz and Edward McGurn. Carlos Eugenio Lavin, Leopoldo Enriquez, Alan Zhang and José Luis Escolar served as executive producers. The behind-the-scene creative team included cinematographer Checco Varese, production designer Marco Niro, editor Michael Tronick and Oscar-nominated costume designer Paco Delgado (“Les Misérables”). The Academy Award-winning team of Alex Henning and Ben Grossman (“Hugo”) supervised the visual effects. The score was composed by Oscar winner James Horner (“Titanic”). “The 33” was filmed on location in Chile’s harshly remote yet stunningly beautiful Atacama desert just kilometers away from where the event took place, and deep within two mines located in central Colombia. A presentation of Alcon Entertainment and Phoenix Pictures, “The 33” is slated to open on November 13, 2015 and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
