Trump Campaign wasn't the only one that manipulated Facebook users. In the fallout of the Trump campaign Cambridge Analytica scandal, mainstream media took the opportunity to play partisan politics. But manipulation of US voters through Facebook was first done by Obama in 2012 presidential election. Cambridge Analytica manipulation of Facebook users is fundamentally wrong no matter who does it. So let's be correct here and not fall into the tribal partisanship. Help me build the first crypto-funded channel on YouTube by donating to one of my addresses. Bitcoin: 1C7UkndgpQqjTrUkk8pY1rRpmddwHaEEuf Dash Xm4Mc5gXhcpWXKN84c7YRD4GSb1fpKFmrc Litecoin LMhiVJdFhYPejMPJE7r9ooP3nm3DrX4eBT Ethereum 0x6F8bb890E122B9914989D861444Fa492B8520575 Trump campaign didn’t have a permission to use Facebook data of 50 million users. The app developed by Cambridge University academic Alexander Kogan paid its 270,000 users to download it for research purposes only. When Facebook found out Cambridge Analytica used this harvested information, they told the company to delete all user data. But Facebook couldn’t just go out there and admit to the leak of 50 million Facebook users that was going to be used for a political campaign. So they kept quiet, and Cambridge Analytica proceeded to use the data for Trump campaign without any sanctions. Obama’s campaign on the other hand was allowed to manipulate Facebook users by flooding their social feeds with posts that would act as behavioral triggers. We learned from the last video that Facebook uses these behavioral triggers to influence people’s actions. West Virginia, USA - under its wild mountain idyll hides the "black hell": A labyrinth of dark tunnels - hard life in a coal mine. [Online until: 15 August 2019] "Wild, wonderful West Virginia” - that’s how the small state nestled in the Appalachian Mountains bills itself. This documentary reports on the daily struggle facing local coal miners hoping for help from Donald Trump; a sheriff combating the opioid epidemic that has already claimed thousands of lives; and a Cherokee environmental activist whose efforts have earned her intimidation and threats. The whistle of a locomotive at the front of an old coal train, quiet winding roads, and hardly a highway to be found - that’s still the image that many have of West Virginia today. But beneath the forest-covered mountains lies a labyrinth of tunnels just one meter high, in which miners still spend their entire working days toiling in the dark on their hands and knees. The camera team accompanies a traditional coal mining family as they go about their day. Together with the family’s two sons, Scott and Steven Lockhart, the crew ventures into the mine. Conversations with the miners reveal why people who had been lifelong Democratic Party supporters are suddenly placing their hopes for the future in Donald Trump. But the documentary also ventures beyond the coal mines to uncover the lesser-known sides of this Appalachian state - from snake-handling Pentecostal churches to the bluegrass and mountain ballads of Alan Cathead Johnston. We also speak with Sheriff Martin West, who sued the country’s three biggest pharmaceutical makers for their role in the opioid epidemic that has swept the region. And we meet another person who has decided to fight back: Maria Gunnoe, a young Cherokee activist who has dared to take on the coal barons that are ravaging the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Australian Coal Alliance capture of TV news coverage of Barry OFarrell and others at Woodbury Park Rally before the 2011 election campaign (see link below). The then Opposition Leader states that he next Liberal and National Government would " ... ensure mining cannot occur in any water catchment area and that any mining leases and exploration permits will reflect that common sense. Democratic President Barack Obama & Republican candidate Governor Mitt Romney discuss military horses and bayonets, Battleship, & future of the American military during the third 2012 Presidential Debate. The 3rd presidential debate was held at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida & moderated by Bob Schieffer, host of "Face The Nation" on CBS. The debate focused on foreign policy, national security, America's role in the world, terrorism, & war. Candidates also discussed Afghanistan, China, Iran, Israel, Libya, Pakistan, & the Middle East. Transcript Of President Obama's Response: OBAMA: You mentioned the Navy, for example, & that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our military's changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. And so the question is not a game of Battleship where we're counting ships. It's what are our capabilities. __________ 2012 ELECTION COVERAGE from Ora TV with Larry King: http://www.youtube.com/oratv & http://ora.tv WATCH Larry King & special guests LIVE on YouTube & Ora TV: http://www.ora.tv/ora2012 SUBSCRIBE to Ora TV's YouTube Channel for LIVE Election Coverage: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=OraTvnetwork FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/OraTV TWITTER: http://twitter.com/OraTV & http://twitter.com/OraPolitics Use #Ora2012 to interact with us on Twitter CHECK OUT Larry's daily show, "Larry King Now," on Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/larry-king-now Comment & ask Larry questions on Twitter: http://twitter.com/KingsThings

The Territory of Christmas Island is an Australian external territory comprising the island of the same name. Christmas Island is located in the Indian Ocean, around 350 kilometres (220 mi) south of Java and Sumatra and around 1,550 kilometres (960 mi) north-west of the closest point on the Australian mainland. It has an area of 135 square kilometres. 2. The first European to sight the island was Richard Rowe of the Thomas in 1615. The island was later named on Christmas Day (25 December) 1643 by Captain William Mynors, but only settled in the late 19th century. Its geographic isolation and history of minimal human disturbance has led to a high level of endemism among its flora and fauna, which is of interest to scientists and naturalists. The majority (63 percent) of the island is included in the Christmas Island National Park, which features several areas of primary monsoonal forest. 3. It has been settled only since the 1880s; for much of the period since then it was administered by the Straits Settlement (Singapore), with inclusion as an Australian territory only since 1958. Phosphate mining was the reason for its settlement, and has persisted as the main (sometimes only) industry ever since, leading to loss of about 25% of the Island’s rainforest area. 4. Flying Fish Cove is the capital city and main settlement of Australia's Christmas Island. Although it was originally named after British survey-ship Flying-Fish, many maps simply label it “The Settlement”. It was the first British settlement on the island, established in 1888. 5. Most of its reptiles, native mammals, and terrestrial birds occur (or occurred) nowhere else; and nearly 200 invertebrate species are considered endemic. There are very few areas in Australia (indeed, in the world) that can match such narrow endemism. The endemic Red Crab is the most conspicuous, with a population of at least 40 million. It is the Island’s ecological lynchpin, engineering the forest structure and productivity. It is everywhere; but spectacularly so in its annual breeding migration from forest to sea, when the forest floor, roads and gardens become moving masses of crab: one of the world’s great animal migrations. 6. From the outbreak of the South-East Asian theatre of World War II in December 1941, Christmas Island was a target for Japanese occupation because of its rich phosphate deposits. 7. From the late 1980s and early 1990s, boats carrying asylum seekers, mainly departing from Indonesia, began landing on the island. In 2001, Christmas Island was the site of the Tampa controversy, in which the Australian government stopped a Norwegian ship, MV Tampa, from disembarking 438 rescued asylum-seekers. The ensuing standoff and the associated political reactions in Australia were a major issue in the 2001 Australian federal election. Sagayam IAS Press Meet in Chennai 28/10/2017 U. Sagayam Ubagarampillai Sagayam Native name உபகாரம்பிள்ளை சகாயம் Born 3 July 1962 (age 55) Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu Residence Chennai, Tamil Nadu Nationality Indian Occupation IAS Officer Ubagarampillai Sagayam (Tamil: உபகாரம்பிள்ளை சகாயம்), usually referred to as U. Sagayam, is a 2001 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, noted for his anti-corruption activities. Sagayam, whose office door bears a sign reading "Reject bribes, hold your head high" (in Tamil, Lanjam thavirtthu, nenjam nimirtthu; லஞ்சம் தவிர்த்து நெஞ்சம் நிமிர்த்து), has repeatedly antagonized influential politicians and their supporters in Tamil Nadu. In 2011, he was appointed to oversee state elections in the Madurai district; his strict enforcement of the laws against vote-buying played a role in the change of state government. Beginning in 2012, his investigation of complaints of illegal granite-mining in the Madurai area led to charges against a number of politicians and businesses, including a mining company founded by a scion of one of Madurai's most influential political families. Sagayam's efforts to eliminate corruption have led to his reportedly being transferred for 25 times in the first 27 years of his career. They have also won him a reputation for probity; in the words of a DNA correspondent, "[T]he common man's collector has become the hero of the local folklore". Sagayam is the youngest of five sons of a farmer from Perunchunai village, Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. He attended a Tamil-medium panchayat elementary school and then a Government Higher secondary school at Ellaippatti. He eventually received master's degrees in social work and in law. Sagayam joined the Central Secretariat Service in 1989] after qualifying through the Civil Services Examination. After getting inducted, training and then after working for 7 months in New Delhi, Sagayam voluntary resigned from the Central Secretariat Service. He later took the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission exams and was a appointed in the Tamil Nadu State Civil Service. After attaining seniority in the service, he was promoted to the Indian Administrative Service. In 1991, he started his career as Tamil Nadu Civil Service officer, as a sub-divisional magistrate in the district of Ootacamund. In Ooty, Sagayam became embroiled in a dispute with the District Collector, whom he accused of favouritism toward the operators of large tea estates. Sagayam was relieved of his charges and transferred to another. By 2000, Sagayam was an Additional District Magistrate in Kanchipuram. There, he closed the Pepsi bottling plant and forbade the sale of its output after dirt was found in several bottles. He also took on the so-called "sand mafia", responsible for unauthorized mining of sand from the bed of the Palar River, a practice that increases erosion and the incidence of flooding. Sagayam ordered a halt to dredging, and declined to rescind his order despite threats of physical violence. In 2004, Sagayam, now working as deputy commissioner of civil supplies in Chennai, discovered that subsidized gas cylinders intended for domestic use were being illegally used by restaurants. He confiscated 5000 such cylinders. By 2009, Sagayam was posted as the District Collector of the Namakkal district. In that year, he posted details of his personal assets—a bank balance of Rs 7,172 and a house in Madurai, jointly owned with his wife, worth Rs 9 lakh (Rs 900,000)—on the district website. Although this information was on file with the government and thus available for public perusal, Sagayam said, he felt that it should be made more visible to the public. In an interview with the Deccan Herald, he stated that the district collector should set an example of honesty for his subordinates, and that actions like his might tend to rehabilitate the tarnished image of civil servants. Sagayam was the first IAS officer in Tamil Nadu to publicize his financial information thus. In Namakkal, Sagayam attempted to reform the village administrative officer (VAO) system. He pursued VAOs who lived in cities, far away from the villages that they were charged with overseeing. When VAOs and local politicians attempted to have Sagayam transferred, over 5000 villagers protested the transfer attempt, forcing its withdrawal. Born in Telangana, B Chandrakala is a graduate in geography. However, she did her post-graduation in economics. It was in 2008, that she cracked the IAS exam in her very first attempt. After which she was posted in Uttar Pradesh. Between April 2012 to March 2017, Chandrakala served as a magistrate in five districts of UP. And between 2012 to 2014, she was the DM of Hamirpur when the illegal mining case happened. At a time when corruption was rampant and bureaucracy was considered a politician's aid, Chandrakala came across as an officer with a spine. Thus, it comes as a shocker as the CBI raided her property in connection with the illegal sand mining case on January 5 among others. Of 11 accused in the case, B Chandrakala is one as well. The CBI alleged that Chandrakala gave out mining leases allegedly in violation of the rules laid down by the UP government and allowed mining even in the period when it was prohibited by the National Green Tribunal. In this show, we tell you how her wealth surged over the years. #HWNewsEnglish #PoliticalNews #News SUBSCRIBE to HW News English Here ► http://bit.ly/Subscribe-HWNews-English For NEWS and POLITICAL updates in English. We describe a system for searching your personal photos using an extremely wide range of text queries, including dates and holidays ("Halloween"), named and categorical places ("Empire State Building" or "park"), events and occasions ("Radiohead concert" or "wedding"), activities ("skiing"), object categories ("whales"), attributes ("outdoors"), and object instances ("Mona Lisa"), and any combination of these -- all with no manual labeling required. We accomplish this by correlating information in your photos -- the timestamps, GPS locations, and image pixels -- to information mined from the Internet. This includes matching dates to holidays listed on Wikipedia, GPS coordinates to places listed on Wikimapia, places and dates to find named events using Google, visual categories using classifiers either pre-trained on ImageNet or trained on-the-fly using results from Google Image Search, and object instances using interest point-based matching, again using results from Google Images. We tie all of these disparate sources of information together in a unified way, allowing for fast and accurate searches using whatever information you remember about a photo. We quantitatively evaluate several aspects of our system and show excellent performance in all respects. http://homes.cs.washington.edu/~neeraj/projects/photo-recall/

Mumbai IIT graduate in metallurgical engineering and among the first members of BJP in Goa, Parrikar was instrumental in raising the profile of his party from its just four members in state assembly in 1994 to its present status as a ruling party in the state assembly. An unassuming man, Parrikar, who had launched a campaign against the Congress-led government on the issue of illegal mining in the state, emerged as the rallying-point for anti-Congress sentiments. He was the first BJP chief minister who had publicly said in 2013 that Narendra Modi, the then Gujarat Chief Minister, should be the face of the party in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Parrikar was considered as a confidante of Modi and stood by him during party's decision at a key BJP meet in Goa naming the Gujarat strongman as campaign in-charge before 2014 elections. At the same time, Parrikar caused a flutter in the BJP with remarks that the 2002 post-Godhra riots in Gujarat were a "blot" on Modi's career though he was not personally part of it. Parrikar, who was also known for his blunt talk and development initiatives, got the first taste of power in the state in 2000 when he was elected the Chief Minister, becoming the first IITian to head a state government. He also had an image of being an organised taskmaster. As a Leader of Opposition, he took on the Congress party to highlight alleged acts of irregularities. His controversial Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report bringing to fore the illegal mining led to a major investigation by Justice MB Shah Commission into iron ore extraction activity in the state. Armed with the party's populist manifesto during his third stint in 2012, Parrikar cut down the prices of petrol in the state by almost Rs 11 per litre, the move which made him most popular chief minister overnight. The social security schemes like Grih Adhar (providing monthly income for housewives) and Ladli Lakshmi (giving financial help for marriage of girl child) cemented his popularity in the state. A RSS pracharak from Goa, Parrikar's electoral debut was unsuccessful when he was defeated by Congress candidate Harish Zantye in the 1991 Lok Sabha polls. He was first elected to the second legislative assembly of Goa in 1994. Later, he rose to become Leader of Opposition from June to November 1999. Parrikar became the Chief Minister for the first time on October 24, 2000, but his tenure lasted only till February 27, 2002. On June 5, 2002, he was re-elected and became the Chief Minister again. On January 29, 2005, his government was reduced to a minority in the assembly after four BJP MLAs resigned from the House. However, Parrikar proved his majority in the house in the next month. In 2007, the Parrikar-led BJP was defeated in the Goa state elections by the Congress led by Digambar Kamat, a former BJP leader. He was inducted into the Narendra Modi cabinet as the defence minister, under whose tenure India conducted the surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He returned as Goa CM on March 14, 2017 after the BJP managed to cobble up an alliance in the coastal state to keep the Congress out of power. Lu Chen's Dissertation Defense: " Mining and Analyzing Subjective Experiences in User Generated Content " Tuesday, August 9, 2016 Dissertation Committee: Dr. Amit Sheth, Advisor, Dr. T. K. Prasad, Dr. Keke Chen, Dr. Ingmar Weber, and Dr. Justin Martineau Home Page: http://knoesis.org/researchers/luchen/ Pictures: https://www.facebook.com/Kno.e.sis/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1225911137443732 Slides: https://www.slideshare.net/knoesis/mining-and-analyzing-subjective-experiences-in-usergenerated-content ABSTRACT: Web 2.0 and social media enable people to create, share and discover information instantly anywhere, anytime. A great amount of this information is subjective information -- the information about people's subjective experiences, ranging from feelings of what is happening in our daily lives to opinions on a wide variety of topics. Subjective information is useful to individuals, businesses, and government agencies to support decision making in areas such as product purchase, marketing strategy, and policy making. However, much useful subjective information is buried in ever-growing user generated data on social media platforms, it is still difficult to extract high quality subjective information and make full use of it with current technologies. Current subjectivity and sentiment analysis research has largely focused on classifying the text polarity -- whether the expressed opinion regarding a specific topic in a given text is positive, negative, or neutral. This narrow definition does not take into account the other types of subjective information such as emotion, intent, and preference, which may prevent their exploitation from reaching its full potential. This dissertation extends the definition and introduces a unified framework for mining and analyzing diverse types of subjective information. We have identified four components of a subjective experience: an individual who holds it, a target that elicits it (e.g., a movie, or an event), a set of expressions that describe it (e.g., "excellent", "exciting"), and a classification or assessment that characterize it (e.g., positive vs. negative). Accordingly, this dissertation makes contributions in developing novel and general techniques for the tasks of identifying and extracting these components. We first explore the task of extracting sentiment expressions from social media posts. We propose an optimization-based approach that extracts a diverse set of sentiment-bearing expressions, including formal and slang words/phrases, for a given target from an unlabeled corpus. Instead of associating the overall sentiment with a given text, this method assesses the more fine-grained target-dependent polarity of each sentiment expression. Unlike pattern-based approaches which often fail to capture the diversity of sentiment expressions due to the informal nature of language usage and writing style in social media posts, the proposed approach is capable of identifying sentiment phrases of different lengths and slang expressions including abbreviations and spelling variations. We then look into the task of finding opinion targets in product reviews, where the product features (product attributes and components) are usually the targets of opinions. We propose a clustering approach that identifies product features and groups them into aspect categories. Finally, we study the classification and assessment of several types of subjective information (e.g., sentiment, political preference, subjective well-being) in two specific application scenarios. One application is to predict election results based on analyzing the sentiments of social media users towards election candidates. Observing that different political preference and tweeting behavior of users may have significant effect on predicting election results. We propose methods to group users based on their political preference and participation in the discussion, and assess their sentiments towards the candidates to predict the results. We examine the predictive power of different user groups in predicting the results of 2012 U.S. Republican Presidential Primaries. The other application is to understand the relationship between religiosity and subjective well-being (or happiness). We analyze the tweets and networks of more than 250k U.S. Twitter users who self-declared their beliefs. We build classifiers to classify believers of different religions using the self-declared data. In order to understand the effect of religiosity on happiness, we examine the pleasant/unpleasant emotional expressions in users' tweets to estimate their subjective well-being, and investigate the variations in happiness among religious groups.
