What are the risks and benefits of paper wallets? How do you spend from them? Why are they hard to create and use securely? Why is a hardware wallet preferable? In this video I show you how to use Bitaddress.org to create a Bitcoin paper wallet to store your funds safely offline. NOTE - To have the highest level of security possible, this would be done on a computer that has never and will never connect to the internet. This minimizes the odds that any sort of malware could be installed on your system and gain access to your private keys. As always, please exercise caution and use this or any other security method at your own risk! This is a how to video on creating bitcoin paper wallets. While there are other more secure ways of creating paper wallets for bitcoin, the method that I show you in this video is moderatly safe. Safe enough to store decent amounts of BTC. I don't think I would reccomend storing more than a few hundred dollars worth of BTC in these paper wallets, but they can still serve as a convienient option for handling your Bitcoin. In the following videos, I will show you how to create much more secure Papers wallets for your BTC using an open source program called, Bitcoin Armory. But until then, enjoy learning how to make a Bitcoin Paper Wallet! It’s the private address that you want to keep from exposing to potential hackers by keeping your computer offline while this is being displayed because it is the private key that allows you to withdraw the funds. Print out this page, make a copy just in case, or write it down, both the public and private keys or addresses and store somewhere very safe. Now when you are ready to move your bitcoin or you want to cash out, you can do this by creating a free account with blockchain.info. All you need is an email and password. Once you are signed up they will send you an email with your wallet ID, now this is very important because you’ll need this ID to log into this account. With your brand new account you’ll need to go to the settings menu and under the security options be sure to back up your account with the wallet recovery phrase. This will allow you to still gain access to your funds even if you forget your password. Once you’ve written down your recovery phrase store this in a safe place much like you would your private key for your paper wallet. How you import your paper wallet onto your blockchain.info account. Go to Settings and then select the addresses option. Here you can Import addresses. Now pay attention. In order to import your paper wallet you’ll need to type in the PRIVATE address of your paper wallet. It is for this reason that I highly suggest that you take out all coins from the paper wallet as the private key has essentially been compromised. Even if you want to continue storing some of your bitcoin on a paper wallet, just create a new paper wallet and store them there. Discontinue use of any paper wallet that has had it’s private key used anywhere on the internet. You can do so by getting your blockchain.info wallet address by selecting the “receive” option here, copy the address and then go to the “send” option and select the wallet you’d like to send coins from, and paste the address of the blockchain.info wallet. So you will have effectively imported your paper wallet and transferred all of your funds out of that paper wallet address and onto your blockchain.info wallet, the same wallet that is now backed up with your recovery phrase. Congratulations! Whenever you want to send coins from one wallet to another, this includes exchanges, since the coins you have on an exchange are in a wallet on that exchange… you’ll need to follow this general protocol. Three very important tips for anyone new to transferring their crypto: First, be sure the wallet you are sending your coins to is appropriate for the coins you are sending, you cannot send ethereum into a bitcoin address, or pivx to a Monero address, or steem to a steem backed dollar address. If you do this your coins will be lost. Second, be sure you input the correct address into the recipient field. I know most crypto addresses have a lot of upper and lower case letters and numbers and they can be daunting to look at at first, so I always double check the first few characters and the last few characters to be sure that I’m sending my coins to the right address. Third, if you need to transfer a large amount of coins and you’re nervous because it’s your first time transferring that particular coin or it’s your first time using that particular address, just send a small amount first. Once you see that it’s gone through then you can have some peace of mind that you can send the larger amount successfully.

Are your bitcoins stuck in cold storage or on your paper wallet? Sure those are both GREAT places to keep them, but how do you get them out? What does 'sweeping' mean? These ideas are the goal of this video. Hopefully by the end of these videos you will no longer be afraid to take your bitcoins out of the reaches of malware programmers. This is part two of our bitcoin security series. Here's the intro to the series... ========= Bitcoin security? UGH!!! Way too many bitcoins are being stolen by crafty malware programmers. Bitcoin does so many things better than banks (trusts, escrows, programmable money, cheap transfers, instant accounts, etc.), but one area that is not quite so nice, is security. While the bitcoin network, itself, appears bullet-proof, lots of bitcoins are being stolen, via hacking, malware and flaws in online wallets and even google's random number generator. The answer is to get your bitcoins entirely offline, and the two ways to do this are paper wallets and cold storage. The previous video is an introduction to making both, while this video focuses on how to get your bitcoins out of cold storage (to spend, to move to another wallet, etc). James walks you through the software and ideas used in making 'sloppy' offline wallets (which are great to have). He also gives suggestions at making even better offline wallets. This is the first of many videos we will make on bitcoin security, and the least technical. We hope you'll enjoy. Here's the public address to the wallet we sent the funds too...good luck...hope you get there first. https://blockchain.info/address/19ZxxVTac6zxH9a9xqXhtntepTLosFa8F9 Here is the live link to our donation address https://blockchain.info/address/1javsf8GNsudLaDue3dXkKzjtGM8NagQe Feel free to like, subscribe, comment or even drop a little jangly in our bitcoin tip jar 1javsf8GNsudLaDue3dXkKzjtGM8NagQe Welcom to WBN's Bitcoin 101 Blackboard Series -- a full beginner to expert course in bitcoin. There are several types of wallets that provide different ways to store and access your digital currency. Wallets can be broken down into three distinct categories – software, hardware, and paper. Software wallets can be a desktop, mobile or online. Desktop: wallets are downloaded and installed on a PC or laptop. They are only accessible from the single computer in which they are downloaded. Desktop wallets offer one of the highest levels of security however if your computer is hacked or gets a virus there is the possibility that you may lose all your funds. Online: wallets run on the cloud and are accessible from any computing device in any location. While they are more convenient to access, online wallets store your private keys online and are controlled by a third party which makes them more vulnerable to hacking attacks and theft. Mobile: wallets run on an app on your phone and are useful because they can be used anywhere including retail stores. Mobile wallets are usually much smaller and simpler than desktop wallets because of the limited space available on a mobile. Hardware: wallets differ from software wallets in that they store a user’s private keys on a hardware device like a USB. Although hardware wallets make transactions online, they are stored offline which delivers increased security. Hardware wallets can be compatible with several web interfaces and can support different currencies; it just depends on which one you decide to use. What’s more, making a transaction is easy. Users simply plug in their device to any internet enabled computer or device, enter a pin, send currency and confirm. Hardware wallets make it possible to easily transact while also keeping your money offline and away from danger. Paper: wallets are easy to use and provide a very high level of security. While the term paper wallet can simply refer to a physical copy or printout of your public and private keys, it can also refer to a piece of software that is used to securely generate a pair of keys which are then printed. Using a paper wallet is relatively straightforward. Transferring Bitcoin or any other currency to your paper wallet is accomplished by the transfer of funds from your software wallet to the public address shown on your paper wallet. Alternatively, if you want to withdraw or spend currency, all you need to do is transfer funds from your paper wallet to your software wallet. This process, often referred to as ‘sweeping,’ can either be done manually by entering your private keys or by scanning the QR code on the paper wallet. Entropy - USB dongle device allows users to create their paper wallet without an Internet connection being involved at any point of the process. Look, no web The small USB device is simply plugged into a compatible printer’s USB port, where it generates a random number with 256-bits of entropy, which is then used to generate a paper wallet with private and public keys. This wallet is then fed to the printer as a jpeg image file, which is destroyed when the process is complete. The most obvious advantage of this approach is that the paper wallet does not end up on a computer or any device that could be hacked, greatly reducing the chance of having your bitcoin stolen. Mycelium adds that Entropy has additional security features This is currently the most secure way to create paper wallets, since the keys are never exposed to the web, use true high level entropy, and only exist on paper. For extra security, Mycelium Entropy can also create M-of-N split keys, where the private key is split up in such a way that you need two out of three parts to spend from an address. In this way, if one of your paper backups is lost or stolen, the thief still can't steal your coins, and you can still access them using the remaining 2 paper backups. ______________________________________________ Available now on https://mycelium.com/entropy - worldwide shipping ______________________________________________ See also bitcoin smartcard ledger wallet nano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ss7xnFP9AM ______________________________________________ Don't forget Subsribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOh4dka-cRhc0Yl8820mCxg ______________________________________________ This video: http://youtu.be/AfNoHCjl-do

If you enjoyed this video, you can buy me a cup of coffee using Bitcoin: 1CGqMPRpsH2CNxkqbTU8mTGtoALSomPXny Hi guys, In today's video I talk about the different existing crypto wallets and how safe they are. I walk you through the online, desktop and hardware crypto wallets and then I emphasise the paper wallet, which I find the most secure. I also show you how to get a paper wallet and what is advised to do and not to do. I will NEVER use the public nor the private generated keys for this paper wallet, as it is used as a demo for you. If you decide to go for an online wallet (not my recommendation), use Bitcoin's website to choose from one of those - https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet Create a paper wallet using this website and follow my steps from the video - https://www.bitaddress.org/. What coins are you interested in? -- The three picks on my shortlist all have integrations to work with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many of the other major alt coins. But not all cryptocurrency wallets work with all cryptocurrencies. You’ll need to determine which cryptocurrencies you’ll be buying and selling to chip away at the long list of options available in the market. 2.) Do you want a hardware wallet or a software wallet? -- This is actually more a question of how much security do you require for your cryptocurrency wallet? Hardware wallets offer the most complex and robust security of any type of bitcoin wallet. That’s because the physical hardware device must be connected to a computer or smartphone to execute a transaction. The downside is hardware wallets offer less flexibility compared to software wallets, such as online services offered through the Coinbase exchange. These deeper integrations do make most software wallets more useful in more scenarios, whether you’re trading coins or making purchases online. 3.) What’s your budget – You’ll have to shell out some dough, upwards of $100 in some cases, to get the most robust security that’s offered with hardware wallets. Software wallets, on the other hand, are mostly free. Types of cryptocurrency wallets: Hardware wallet -- Most hardware wallets utilize a USB connection to store your private keys. They offer the highest level of security since your information is stored offline. Hardware wallets still offer simple capabilities for transactions, but note that the wallet must be connected to a computer to make a transaction. The reduced flexibility is simply a tradeoff of holding cryptocurrency offline. Software wallet -- Usually a cloud-based interface on your computer or mobile device. They are less secure than hardware wallets since your information is stored online and can be susceptible to hacks. Software wallets are available on Mac OS and iOS enabled devices, as well as Windows and Linux, and across types of internet browsers. Paper wallet -- Consider a paper wallet the stock certificates of cryptocurrencies. A paper wallet will generally include a QR code that can be scanned and transferred to a software wallet when wanting to make a transaction. Otherwise, a paper wallet is simply a physical printout of your public and private keys.

The dangers of custodial accounts; not your keys, not your money. Security practices for long-term vs. short-term storage, trading, and transacting. I don't leave any currency (crypto or fiat) in an exchange for longer than 15 minutes. I use these cryptocurrencies to pay my bills, so I transact very often. So far, I've only ever lost small amounts of bitcoin through stupid mistakes. 1. Don't leave your money on exchanges longer than you have to. If you day-trade, make sure you understand the risk that entails. 2. Organise a tiered storage system of hot and cold wallets, factoring in the amount of bitcoin you're storing, how you plan to use it (soon or not for a long time), and what security risks you're willing to take with each tier. 3. Use cold storage (i.e. paper wallets) for large amounts or for bitcoins you don't plan on using for a longer period of time. 4. Use hardware wallets that are PIN or password-protected 5. Use multi-signature multi-party or multi-factor wallets for carrying out your weekly business transactions. 6. Use hot wallets (ex. mobile wallets) for petty cash, or if you are the Oprah of cryptocurrency. If you store your Bitcoin at an online wallet like Coinbase or a trading exchange, THEY ARE NOT SAFE! Plain and simple! You need to create an OFFLINE wallet immediately! Offline wallets are also known as "Cold Storage" and it's the only way to ensure that your Bitcoins stay safe and secure! If this is the first time you've ever heard of a cold storage wallet or a bitcoin private key, I would strongly suggest doing more research into Bitcoin before you invest any more of your money. The worst possible thing to have happen is someone come along and steal your Bitcoins because you didn't properly secure them. Sign Up to Coinbase & Get $10 FREE - https://goo.gl/G4CKRw If making your own offline cold storage wallet seems like too much work or if you think you'd find a way to mess it up, I would suggest buying a Trezor Hardware Wallet. These things are more secure than an online wallet and are SUPER easy to use! If you want to purchase a hardware wallet instead of making your own cold storage wallet, check this link - https://goo.gl/b4ZjFB If you're looking to make a your own paper offline wallet, you can do that here - http://www.bitcoinpaperwallet.com or http://www.bitaddress.org Want to TRADE Bitcoin for other crypto currecny? SET UP YOUR COINBASE ACCOUNT: https://goo.gl/mWo1aM HOW TO EARN WITH CRYPTOCURRENCY: BEGINNER’S GUIDE https://goo.gl/nTDLgS ----- Today we’re talking about how to make your own Bitcoin wallet (and also a wallet for any other cryptocurrency). Now there are a lot of ways to get a Bitcoin wallet – you could have a piece of paper, a thumb drive, and different kinds of online wallets, but today I’m going to show you the MOST SAFE and MOST EASY one to use. First, follow the link above and create an account on CoinBase (and cool thing is you’ll get $10 in Bitcoin after you spend $100 on Bitcoin). Once your account is setup you’ll have a wallet ready to go, but this isn’t exactly safe yet. Hit ‘New Account’ and click ‘Vault’. Basically, what a vault is it’s something that slows down the selling process by sending out verification notices to all your linked devices in the span of two days. So, let’s say your account was compromised but all your money was stored in a vault – if whoever got into your account tries to send it somewhere else, you’ll receive emails and texts within the next 48 hours saying you have to verify that issued that transfer, if it wasn’t you, just say it wasn’t and you’ll lose nothing at all. So, when setting up your vault you need to add a primary and secondary email PLUS a phone number (verification messages will be sent out during the initial setup to confirm these are really your accounts, tedious, yes, but just goes to show how protected it all is!). Once everything is set up, just head over to your Bitcoin Vault and hit ‘Deposit’ and put in whatever amount you want to keep safe. It’s that simple and it’s 100% secure.
